After years of planning, Al-Arqam Islamic School opened its doors in 1998 to 8 students and 3 teachers. The school was first located at the Muslim Mosque Association in Sacramento, occupying just 4 classrooms for Kindergarten though 3rd grade students. Not for long, by the grace of Allah (swt), then the hard work and sacrifices of a dedicated board, administration, faculty, and parents, all who shared a vested interest in the success of this project, Al-Arqam quickly took shape and started an impressive and steady pattern of growth and accomplishments that surprised and delighted even its own founders. The school, now occupies and makes full use of 17 classrooms within the Masjid Annur Islamic Center, a Computer lab, Science lab, cafeteria, soccer field and playground, and a Library with over 7000 books and teacher resources. It currently serves over 300 students in grades kindergarten to twelfth.
Though the school has seen tremendous change over the past decade, the vision of Islamic education and academic excellence has remained constant. Al-Arqamâ??s staff and parents continue to work together to integrate our faith into all aspects of daily life, and to support our students to achieve their fullest potential, intellectually and spiritually.
Al-Arqam offers an academic curriculum that adheres to California State Content Standards for Mathematics, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Arts, Technology, and Physical Education. Students, beginning in Kindergarten, also study Arabic as a second language. Al-Arqamâ??s Arabic department is in a constant process of review and refinement of the language curriculum, to ensure that students are not only able to read and understand Qurâ??anic Arabic, but are also proficient in Arabic written and oral communication for modern usage. Qur'an and Islamic Studies are two classes that are also taught everyday as part of the curriculum for every grade.
To meet the goal of Al-Arqam students becoming high academic achievers, the school is persistent in its endeavor to seek and provide the best academic programs and curriculum materials for its students. Therefore Al-Arqam is currently an IB World School providing outstanding classes based on an internationally recognized standard.
The school offers grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12th and welcomes all students who are inclined to learn in a welcoming Islamic environment and who have the desire to grow academically and be challenged.
